He's all that we've got!
He's all that we've got!
Robin Van Persie, he's all that we've got!
That was the song we were introduced to on our trip to Marseille to watch Arsenal play in the group stages of the Champions League. A couple of the Gooners we had met had made the song up that day, and they were trying to get it to catch on. We helped, not so much because we agreed with the message, but more just to see if we could get the whole away stand singing it. Unfortunately we weren't able to get more than 2 dozen guys joining us, although we felt pretty proud of that at the time.
The reason I am bring up this song is two-fold.
Firstly, at almost every away game we play at now you can here that song being sung repeatedly through-out the whole away stand. Bellowing the words across the Arsenal players. I often wonder if they can hear what is being said, and how that makes them feel. Moreover, how does it make RVP feel? Even if they can't hear what is being said, it does show us the type of feeling in the Arsenal supporter camp.
Secondly, I don't agree that RVP is all that we have got. I still believe that we have world class players in RVP, Verminator, Wilshire and hopefully the Ox (the way he has been playing lately!), but I do recognize that losing RVP would be very harmful to our team, probably even more harmful than losing Fabregas last season. I mean if you look at our last 4 captains, they have all left Arsenal to go find "greener" pastures, and losing another one would be devastating.
There was also an alternative version of the song which we tried to get going that night in Marseille. A song which I am sure is going to pick up as we approach the end of the year.
